Solemn Drifter, in short,  is a 16th century turned futuristic rpg game. This game is being developed in Rpg Maker 2003, however there will be a lot of customization done to set this game a part from other games. It will run like any traditional rpg game but with a few unique systems. Here is a run down of some of the features that we’re currently working on:

  • Frontal Battle System: This is a modified default battle system with large, frontal styled sprites. Battle animations will still occur on both the characters and monsters. Status ailments will be displayed on what I’ve called “Ailment Cards”. These cards will appear on the screen beside effected party members.

  • Trade System: This is a unique system that will feature a new style of earning money, gaining items, weapons, armour, etc. The player will be able to access this market from the HUD to buy, sell, and trade items. This system will expand on how you earn money and gain items. Some of the rarest items can only be obtained using this Trade Market. Details on how it works will be provided once it’s further developed.

  • Tactical Battle System: The TBS is the biggest and ideal feature of this project. Theoretically, this system will be a limited TBS in a space enviroment with mouse support. When I say limited, I mean there will not be too many battles unless the system runs well when it’s complete. The enviroment is played on backgrounds/maps with a grid as sectors that the units will move on. In other words, it will not feature any isometric enviroments. As the units are in attack range, the player can issue the attack command and a close up animation will occur. Here’s an old mock up!

  • HUD: The HUD will replace the needs of a CMS (Custom Menu System). Any additional feature that we feel should be included to the menu system will be accessible through the HUD – Just like the Trade System will be.

  • Galaxy Map: Regarding overview maps, the Galaxy Map will be the only overview map in the game. The player has the option of flying through space in a ship and selecting destinations. Some areas will be unaccessible. These areas will be accessible either later in the game or in a new release of the project. This will give us room to add new content such as more story events content or side quests.

  • Party Swap: Just like the name entails, the party swap system will be a feature that allows you to swap characters once you’ve reached the maximum amount of players. There will be 3 slots for playable characters and 2 additional slots for NPCs that may join you.

More details and screens will be posted here in the near future.
